Swimming classes

Elgin and Elk Grove have homeschool swim and/or gym classes. Other park districts offer theses as well, or are willing to if you just ask and have a small group ready to enroll.

Many of the classes I come across started because a homeschooler asked or initiated it. It is amazing what people are willing to arrange for you if you just ask, so grab a couple other homeschool families and explore your options!

Elk Grove:
Home school swim lessons are starting up again at the Elk Grove Park District in September!

The fall session will be 8 weeks, beginning the week of 9/14 and ending the week of 11/2.
The cost is $58 per student (which is a great deal at only $7.25 per class).
New this session will be an open swim in the Lagoon for all the kids enrolled in the lessons.
This open swim time is included in the cost.
That means you are getting a 40 minute lesson AND 30 minutes of open swim. Not to mention a great opportunity to make new friends and meet up with old ones. (Thank you Deb D’Onofrio ).

Consumer Business Enhancement Session in Gurnee

Paul Tait has a passion for the home school community.  He is retired after spending 18 years at Christian Liberty.  He is organizing a workshop series designed for High School students and their teaching adult.  The workshops will focus on consumer business issues that he feels are applicable for “real life” training.

The details of this workshop are listed below.

The Veritas Center invites

high school age home schoolers and their teaching parents to a

CONSUMERS’ BUSINESS ENHANCEMENT session (CBES)

Saturday, June 26th at 1:00pm.

The speaker will be Frank O’Connell who has 40 years experience in the property and casualty insurance and reinsurance industry.  He has held five Senior management positions both marketing and underwriting of commercial accounts with a major insurance carrier.  He retired in 1994 and then worked three years as a consultant conducting underwriting examinations of insurance companies for an East coast reinsurer.  Frank holds the Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter Designation which is awarded only after completion of five years of studies and examinations.  He will discuss the personal automobile and Homeowners policies as well the purpose of insurance and its regulation by the state insurance departments.

A question and answer period will follow in which current events, government’s policies/actions as well as hidden and unintended consequences may be discussed.

The goal of this, and future sessions, will be to better prepare students for civic responsibilities and challenges while maintaining personal time and fiscal stewardship in accordance with biblical teaching.

Teaching parents are urged to attend so they can better integrate the materials presented with their academic studies and discussions.

Mr. O’Connell has graciously waived the standard speaker fees and is willing to take whatever funds are raised after covering the expenses at the Center.

Suggestions are requested for future sessions which will be announced over the next few months.

Please RSVP to: VeritasCenter@gmail.com. Please provide Participant first and last names, address, and phone number.

Please refer any questions about the series to:

Paul Tait   847-298-6595 or  Paulmtait@comcast.net
