Career night in Dekalb

Received via email (please share!) What a great idea for a homeschool gathering:

What: Career Night

Where: The Evangelical Free Church of Sycamore-DeKalb   150 Bethany Rd.    DeKalb, IL 60115

When: February 18th starting at 6:30p.m.

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be an engineer? A photographer? A graphic designer?  Come to the family meeting on the 18th and learn from ten different professionals. This evening is for the whole family. Beginning at 6:30 p.m. James Glenn, a homeschooling father of 6 and the Midwest Regional Admissions Director for College Plus will be sharing on “Dreams, Desires, and Decisions.”  From 7:00- 8:30p.m. each professional representative will be available at tables to discuss their profession and answer any questions.  For children 10 and under there will be the opportunity to earn a small prize for participating in the career night “treasure hunt.”

This event is also open to people outside of HEART, so feel free to invite other families to come on out.

Swap Shop in Elburn!

1 John 3:16-18

By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.
But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him?
Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Special speaker in DeKalb

Received this info via email:

Please join us on Monday, February 20 to welcome Wanda Gibert as she shares with the HEART homeschool group:

A Holy Influence:  Be the Crowning Touch in Your Husband’s Life

God has given wives an extraordinary ministry to their husbands.  Balancing homeschooling, schedules, meals, and caring for little ones often leaves wives tired with little energy to give to our husbands.  Wanda Gibert, mother of six, will share ways to keep the God-ordained unity and intimacy between husbands and wives.

This talk is for wives only, but husbands don’t let that stop you from coming out with your wife. The men will meet to enjoy fellowship and “guy” time in a separate room.

HEART meets at Evangelical Free Church, 150 Bethany Rd, DeKalb, IL.  Doors open at 6:30 for fellowship with our meeting starting at 7pm.  We invite everyone to join us for this special meeting.

Steve Demme coming to the area

Next week! This ICHE sponsored event is coming soon, and if you can’t attend in person you can register to attend online. Steve Demme is an incredible speaker and well worth taking the time out of your weekend to give a listen.

Please join ICHE and CHOSEN, the Freeport area support group, in welcoming
Steve Demme to the greater Rockford area!

Steve will be sharing his unique and encouraging insights on family life.  Steve and his wife have raised four sons by God’s grace.  He has worked as a math teacher and a pastor, but many know him as the author and founder of Math-U-See.

The desire of Steve’s heart is to see a balanced bilblical view of the family restored.  We are very excited to hear from a man who has seen first hand how our homes and families can be impacted by the love and grace of our Savior.

Check out their website for all of the details about this family discipleship seminar.

This event is an exciting first for ICHE.
If you cannot attend in person, we are offering a live webstream of the event!

To view the live webstream, register online and check the box that says live stream at the end of the registration form.  You will receive an email shortly before the event with instructions on accessing the website and video stream.

Writing Resources and more

Company Name - Company Message

You can expect to hear more from me about this site that author Jan May recently emailed me about.

I have girls, three of them to be exact. As much as I love my boys, I feel an extra dose of responsibility to raise my girls and prepare them for adulthood. I’m the mom they will try to emulate (or sometimes not). I’m the 24/7 example of a wife for them to see. I feel the weight of this on a daily basis. And, as they will attest, I am constantly seeking out new resources to help me in this job.

This newly discovered site won’t necessarily help them as future wives and moms, but it does have a heart for nurturing godly growth in girls in the 8-12 age range. If you have girls that fall around those ages, I would encourage you to take a look as well.

The site — “Wonderful website for creative writing resources.
Free creative pages, crafts, recipes for girls ages 8-12. Homeschool
links for writing contests and helps. Creative Writing Curriculum that
guides the student to create a character while creating her as a paper
doll.”

Enjoy this site which promises resources targeting boys in the near future —  NewMillenniumGirlBooks.com
