Don’t miss it — Great America Read to Succeed
This is your last chance for this year, the eleventh hour and then some. Great America’s Read to Succeed program is about to wrap up for another season.
Now, if your child has not been reading they will have a difficult time meeting the requirements for this today, unless they REALLY like to read a lot at once.
The basic program: read for 6 hours and earn a free Great America ticket.
Read books, magazines, newspapers, comics, anything, just read! After they log a total of 360 minutes they earn the ticket.
They have revamped this program and made it really easy to sign up for, which is great for procrastinators like me who just got around to signing up yesterday. We’ve been reading all along. We read tons as a matter of habit, but we had not actually filled out the information on their site.
So, don’t wait another minute, get over there and reward your kids for all that time they have spent reading. And, if they haven’t read those 6 hours, you’ve got the whole day Friday to make that right. 😉

Last year we attended this fun event as a family and the kids did not want to leave. It’s fairly simple without a lot of glitz and glamor, but if you have a science buff in your house, they will love all the hands on discoveries to be made. Last year we did not register for the tour, but if we make it this year I hope to get that in as well.
Some of you might be familiar with them for their Dr. Freeze presentations, or their educational resource center that is open almost daily, or their newsworthy scientific research. Whether you are familiar with them or not, this free event to get to know them a bit better has something for everyone to enjoy. It was well attended last year, so prepare for a crowd, but it was worth the trouble for our family.

Brookfield Zoo free days
Brookfield Zoo is a great field trip destination even in the winter months. They also have an abundance of free days in the next couple months. I like to look for warmish days that fall on these free days and enjoy some great outdoor time with my kids. The zoo offers plenty of educational content for a day of learning outside of your home “classroom.”
Even on free days you should plan on paying for parking, but general admission is free on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. You can also enjoy the Children’s Zoo and the Hamill Family Play Zoo every day of the week the rest of January and through February for free. The Family Play Zoo has some great indoor activities especially geared toward younger kids that can be a great way to enjoy the zoo even on a colder day.

Free movie tickets
American Family, Marcus Theatres team up to send kids to the movies
Kids Rule … especially when it comes to summertime fun!
With this in mind, American Family and Marcus Theatres are continuing their popular Kids Rule summer film series for the fifth straight year.
To get in on the fun, pick up your free admission passes from a participating American Family agent. (See links below.) Without a pass, these shows cost $2.75 per person.
Then, for designated movies throughout summer, just sit back and enjoy the show. We’ll even throw in some complimentary popcorn.
What’s playing?
Kids Rule films show every Wednesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. from June 23 through Aug. 12 at participating Marcus Theatres.
There are a number of participating agents that will offer these free tickets to kids while supplies last. Check out all the details and locations of the agents at the American Family Insurance Kids Rule website. (scroll down on that page to find the nearest agent)

Free admission to Holocaust Museum
The new Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center will celebrate its one year anniversary on April 19th. For this one day you can enjoy free admission to the museum.
The schedule for the day includes:

In the museum you can also enjoy an exhibit that shares the wartime escape of H.A. Rey and his wife from the Nazi invasion of Paris during WWII. Name ring a bell? He is the author of the well loved Curious George series, and as a Jew, had to flee to America in 1940.
