Info received from HSLDA:

HSLDA's PHOTO CONTEST

How better to celebrate National Poetry Month this April than by
giving your children a creative incentive to write a poem of their own!

HSLDA’s annual spring Poetry Contest offers all homeschooled students ages 7–19 a place to have fun practicing their poetic techniques in a creative response to one of three classic poems.

Open to HSLDA members and non-members alike and offering cash prizes upwards of $200, this contest promises to be a fun, educational experience for all!

West Suburban Homeschool Band

March 6th, 2015

We are the West Suburban Home School Band, also known as the WSHSB. Our organization follows the model of a community band and includes all wind instruments, woodwinds and brass, as well as a full percussion section. There are 4 band levels, Cadet, completely beginner, to highest level, the Symphonic Band, comprised of students who are in high school, qualified junior high students, and adult musicians. Membership has grown from 46 students/26 families in 2001, to over 150 members from over 80 families in 2014-2015. We are located in suburban Illinois, about an hour away from Chicago, DuPage County.

Our band open house takes place on April 9th, 2015, from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Resurrection Catholic Church, 30 W 350 E Army Trail Rd, Wayne, IL 60184.
We encourage anyone interested in a band program for their children to come and check our group out.

If there is any more opportunity for spreading the word about our organization, please let us know.
Anyone interested in joining the band should contact the director, Karen Borow, at director@wshsb.org, 630-231-6155, or visit our website http://www.wshsb.com/.

Please help us in spreading the word about the WSHSB to your group.

Read to Succeed program wrapping up!

March 3rd, 2015

If you have not already done so, be sure to log your hours for the Read to Succeed program and get that hard earned Six Flags ticket into your child’s hands.

They just extended the deadline, but it is still coming soon! At this point I believe you have to have registered already, but if you have and you didn’t finish logging hours, do it today!
